To start with, you're not the first Zel that's been here. There was another Zel.
See, this world is connected to multiple worlds. But a lot more than just the Lord of Nightmares' worlds. Every world that exists has different iterations of itself in the multiverse, and the multiverse itself has an infinite number of possible realities out there.
You've been drug here against your will by yet another omnipotent being named Yggdrasil, the 'god' of this reality. He's also saddled you with one of the natives as a partner! Congrats, you're stuck together.
