[Whoever has this comm doesn't seem to be doing very well. It clicks on to silence at first, but after a time the sound of sniffling and hiccuping can be heard.]

K-kaa-san... tou-san... I wanna go home... I--

[a sob sounds from the little girl, followed by a rustle of leaves. She gasps, and the connection is cut.]

[Sorry, Jake, she's gotten a bit loud here. True dragons are very rare in her world.]

[Jake moves his hand over her mouth quickly and looks around. He really hopes no one heard that. He looks back to the girl and pulls his hand back slowly.]

Yeah, real dragon and all that. Just keep it down, okay? It's a secret, remember?

Mff--!

[Monako nods, actually smiling.]

My brother would flip, if he knew that I knew a real dragon...

Trust me, I know all about making sibs flip out over stuff but remember; secret. I can't have everyone knowin' I'm a dragon. You feel me?

Okay okay. Mum's the word, right?

[she's still grinning though. She was terrified earlier, but meeting a real dragon has made her almost forget she got hurt.]

Yeah, exactly. Mum's the word and all that. Anyway, where are your parents? Did you lose them or what?

[the smile fades and she looks away]

My family was attacked by very bad people. They tried to hurt my brother and one of them burned me with fire magic...

[she fidgets, putting a hand over the bandage on her arm]

I woke up in that place. My brother and my family were gone. Pan said he was my partner and tried to get us out before anything happened, but we were attacked by those worms...

Dang...I'm sorry.

[Jake goes quiet for a bit. He can't just leave the girl alone with no family here. He swallows and scratches the back of his head.]

Then...come stay with me. I got plenty of room. Fu-mon can just move into my room and you can have his room.

... you're living alone?

[she means without parents, of course]

[Oh crap. He knows that look. He quickly moves over beside her and puts a hand on her shoulder.]

H-Hey now. Come now. Someone told me people from all sorts of times and stuff come here. It's alright. Your parents could show up, you know. I'm sure they're fine.

[She's already rubbing at her eyes again. She doesn't want to cry but it's understandable given her situation at least.]
