[Some one is very busy in the big Hyperion kitchen today. There's a radio playing in the background, a lot of stuff already made and even more started and cooking. It all looks very delicious, and if smells could come through the D-Comm it would be guaranteed people's mouths would be watering.

The one responsible for all of it is at the sink in an apron and casual clothes, back to his D-Comm as he runs water over something and his tail swishing back and forth in time with the music.

His partner climbs up on to the island counter where the finished food is laid out, picking up something with her claws and giving it a sniff before nibbling on it.]

Mmm... what's all this, Rin?

Hm?

[Rin perks up, looking over his shoulder with a proud grin.]

Oh, Watanuki-san wants the bakery to participate in the food festival on Tetha, so he put me in charge of figuring out other food to serve!

[He's obviously pleased with this development. Watanuki was pretty uncertain about him at first, but Rin proved himself through his cooking. It's the first job he's managed to keep longer than a couple of weeks, and getting that kind of responsibility has obviously improved his demeanor.

Ty seems to take notice of this.]

He's giving you a lot of responsibility for being so new. [she smiles] I'm really proud of you.

Heheh... [Rin grins with that, rubbing the back of his neck] Well... he thinks I've got potential. That's good, right?

Of course! I-- ... Rin I think something is burning.

[Sure enough, there's a bit of smoke curling above Rin's head. He looks up at it, then over at the oven off screen.]

Crap--!

[he bolts away, and there's a bit of clanking and noise before the feed shuts off finally.]

Looks like someone's been busy.

[The owner of the voice is Ratchet, leaning up against the counter on the other side of the island. He's smirking at Rin as he watches him.]

[Rin doesn't seem to notice him at first, but after a second a warm (but not too hot) meat bun is tossed Ratchet's way for him to catch.]

I have work ethic too, yehknow.

[Ratchet catches the meat bun and takes a bite out of it.]

Oh? And here I thought you might be a lazy bum.

I like cookin', okay? So keep that kinda talk to yourself.

... and tell me if that's too sweet. I think I put too much sugar in the sauce.

I was kidding, Rin. Ease up. And I think it tastes fine. I like sweet meat. [Ratchet takes another bite of his bun.]

Yeah well... good...

[It's not horribly obvious, but Rin is actually nervous about all this. His tail is twitching differently today, and his answers, though snappish, don't hold the usual bite that they would on another day.]

[Ratchet notices and finishes off his bun before walking over beside Rin and looks up at him.]

What's wrong?

[Rin doesn't answer right away, but he stares at the wall for several seconds, obviously lost in thought. When he answers, his voice is surprisingly quiet.]

I don't wanna fuck this up...

[Ratchet blinks and reaches up, putting his hand on Rin's arm.]

You won't fuck up. Trust in yourself.

... thanks, Ratchet.

[he's not completely convinced, but he does feel better with the encouragement of a friend there]

Come on, Rin. We fought a Demon King, we took on the end of the world, and survived. I think you can get through cooking food just fine, alright?

Fightin's one thing, Ratchet... I haven't been able to hold down a job for more than a month.

Look at it this way; you're talking to the Lombax whose only had two jobs his entire life. I fix things and blow shit up. You got the blowing shit up part down, maybe cooking is your other thing.

Heh... that's true.

[holds up a yakitori stick for Ratchet to try]

[Sweet! More free food. He takes it and nibbles some of the meat and flashes a happy smile before taking a big bite out of it.]

Hmmmm~ This is good~

[He smiles this time, obviously feeling better.]

There you go. You should smile more, dude.

[Ratchet laughs and goes back to eating his yummy meat stick.]

... wh-what's that supposed to mean?!

[Ratchet blinks and realizes how that sounds.]

I just mean...you look like a kicked puppy when you're all sad. Smile more...that's all.

... tch. Whatever.

Hey, I'm just trying to be nice.

I didn't mean it in a bad way. Just...seeing you down kind of makes me feel down too...

[goes back to work, but not to ignore Ratchet. He just wants to be moving while he talks]
